Hays CISD's Child Nutrition Department began serving free breakfast and lunch June 3 to children in the community under age 18.

The program will run through the end of the month with five campuses participating.

What you need to know

According to a district representative, the meals are being served by the Child Nutrition Department but regulated through the Texas Department of Agriculture's Summer Meals Program.

Breakfast and lunches will consist of a protein, grain and dairy product as well as a fruit or vegetable.
  • Meals will be served Monday-Thursday on the provided dates and must be consumed on-site.
  • Any child under age 18 can participate.
  • Proof of age, income or residence is not required, and children do not have to be Hays CISD students.
  • Call 512-268-1336 with more questions.
