"In order to allow first responders, power crews and homeowners extra time to clear roads and recover from storm damage, we are now going to close Hays CISD schools and offices [Feb. 2]," Communications Director Harvest Coats wrote in an email to parents.
The district was set to open Feb. 2 with a two-hour delay prior to this announcement.
SMCISD students will return Monday, Feb. 6, as Feb. 3 is and will remain a student holiday.
In both updates, district officials have stated they will work with the Texas Education Agency to determine whether the state will issue waivers for lost instructional minutes as a result of the weather and subsequent closures.
However, both districts have makeup days Feb. 20 for lost instructional time for weather and other events that trigger school closures.
