The San Marcos CISD board of trustees adopted at a June 20 meeting the fiscal year 2022-23 budget of $95.95 million with revenues projected at $82 million, making for a budget deficit of nearly $14 million.
However, district officials projected the upcoming fiscal year would begin with a fund balance of $49.6 million, meaning about $35.70 million would remain in the district’s fund balance by the end of the next fiscal year.
The district also proposed no change in the tax rate, maintaining $0.9015 for maintenance and operations, or M&O, and $0.2691 for interest and sinking, or I&S—which pays the debt services fund—making for a total of $1.1706 per $100 valuation.
An estimated total of $70.25 million in local revenue, $10.8 million in state revenue and $935,000 in federal revenue will go toward the general fund. An additional $23.49 million in local revenue will go toward debt service, and $336,670 will go toward food service. An additional $4.9 million in state revenue is budgeted for food service.
