With all precincts reporting, Brian Shanks is likely to win the District 4 slot on the San Marcos CISD board of trustees.

Shanks received 50.48% of the vote, and challenger Gabrielle Moore received 49.52%. They are both vying to replace retiring longtime Board Member Kathy Hanson.

By the end of the night May 7, the Hays County Elections Office reported a 9.8% voter turnout across the county.

Speaking to Community Impact Newspaper, Shanks said the turnout was impressive.

“First off, I wanted to thank everybody that came out. We had an awesome turnout of voters. That's the most important part, not necessarily who won or lost, but that we got that many people to turn out and vote for this election,” Shanks said. “I look forward to moving the school [district] forward into improving academics. San Marcos has struggled with their academics for a lot of years, and I look forward to being a part of this group of trustees that will move the school forward and start improving their academics.”

Election results are unofficial until they are canvassed and certified.
