Kathy Hansen, District 4 trustee for the San Marcos CISD board of trustees, announced that she will not seek re-election after her term expires this year.

Hansen made the announcement at the Jan. 18 board meeting.

“I’ve proudly served the students, staff, parents and community of San Marcos CISD for 45 years—30 of my 32 years here as a professional educator, as a teacher of students with learning differences, a dyslexia coordinator, the director of special education, and an assistant principal at San Marcos High School,” Hansen said. “After I retired, I chose to work and serve as a trustee of SMCISD for the past 15 years.”

The first day to file to run for election to the SMCISD board is Jan. 19 for the May elections.

In addition to District 4, District 5 will also be on the ballot in May, currently held by school board President Clementine Cantu. The filing deadline is Feb. 18. Candidates wishing to run will need to file all necessary paperwork with the school board clerk.

“I hope this gives many people who live in District 4 time to think about sharing their time, talents, expertise and concern for the San Marcos CISD community by filing for trustee and know that I will continue to perform my duties as a trustee, as I have in the past, until the new district court trustee is sworn in,” Hansen said.
