During a June 28 meeting, the Hays CISD's board of trustees voted unanimously to instruct the facilities and bond oversight committee to begin preparing a bond package for a May 2022 election.

The bond is likely to include at least one proposition from the May 2021 bond referendum related to a central administration building voters did not approve.

In a May 24 meeting, trustee Will McManus said communication with voters was the main issue causing the proposition to fail.

A lack of time to communicate with voters was cited during the June 28 meeting as a reason not to call the next bond referendum for this November.

"I'm not in favor of a November bond election, just because we don't have enough time to really spend with the committee to create something—a proposition—[and] do enough public hearings," trustee Willie Tenorio said. "All the public hearings would occur during the summer ... and I think that that would result in a process were less people will be able to participate."
