The Hays CISD board of trustees named Aaron Loyd the new principal at Barton Middle School at its April 20 meeting.

Loyd, the current assistant principal at Barton, will replace Teri Eubank to begin the 2020-21 school year. Eubank will retire after a 33-year career in education, the last eight as principal at Barton.

“Aaron is going to keep the Bobcat tradition of success alive and well,” Superintendent Eric Wright said. “We are excited that he will be at the helm. He has been part of the Barton Middle School family for seven years. Students, parents and the community know and respect him. He is the perfect fit to lead the campus during the next chapter.”

According to a release from the district, Loyd has 15 years of experience in teaching and campus leadership, all at Hays CISD. He began his education career in 2005 teaching biology and coaching at Lehman High School. He was promoted to assistant principal at Barton in 2013. During 2011 and 2012, he was the assistant principal for Hays CISD summer school.

“As a principal, I will strive to make our campus a place where students feel safe, faculty are dedicated to building meaningful relationships, an emphasis is placed on contributing to our community, and students are challenged academically,” Loyd said in the release.

Loyd earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree with an emphasis in school administration from Lamar University in Beaumont. He was Hays CISD secondary assistant principal of the year in 2018-19.

The school year is ending with online instruction for teachers, students and administrators of Hays CISD due to coronavirus.
