The project will include interior renovations to the eighth-grade wing of Miller, including replacing the heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit, in addition to re-roofing the school’s cafeteria and gym.
The district will also add a safety voice evacuation feature, which is a type of public address system, to the middle school.
The project will cost $18,416,052, and it is expected to be completed in 633 days after the first day of work, which is expected to be in December. The Webber cost estimate is slightly lower than the estimate provided by the previous contractor, Bartlett Cocke, which submitted a bid for $19,855,000.
At a Nov. 11 meeting, the SMCISD board rescinded its decision to go with Bartlett Cocke and voted to choose Webber instead.
