The District 4 and 5 seats on the San Marcos CISD board of trustees are up for election this year and both incumbents are running unopposed.

District 5 trustee and president Clementine Cantu, a retired educator, is running for reelection. Cantu has served on the board since 2016.

Incumbent Kathy Hansen, a disability-determination services examiner, is running unopposed for the District 4 seat. Hansen, also a former educator, has been a trustee since 2007.

The school board election will be held May 4. However, the trustees will discuss at their Feb. 18 meeting whether or not they want to petition state legislators to amend the election code so the election could be held in November rather than May, as some trustees believe rescheduling it may improve voter turnout.

The deadline for write-in candidates is Feb. 19.

Editor's note: A previous version of this article stated that John P. Crowley was running for the District 5 San Marcos CISD board of trustees seat. It has since been corrected, as Crowley withdrew his application.
