Tantra, a cafe with coffee, cocktails and live music seven days a week, announced that its kitchen is now closed. The spot still offers live events, drinks and grab-and-go food.

The specifics

Tantra announced the change on Facebook with a June 26 post stating it is “evolving into what we’ve always been at heart: a space for live shows, curated cocktails, specialty coffee and unforgettable nights under the stars.”

The kitchen officially ceased operations on June 30. Previously, the cafe served dishes like Mediterranean avocado toast, chicken curry sandwiches and jalapeño cheddar bagels.

Tantra will still serve specialty drinks, including its popular jalapeño habanero margarita and raspberry matcha.

“[The closure] allows us to focus on our beverage service,” owner Jeff Colasurd said. “We’ve got our full bar, coffees, teas and we make all our syrups from scratch.”

Staying local

July marked a partnership with El Taco Feliz, a local Tex-Mex spot in San Marcos, to serve their breakfast tacos daily. Additionally, Tantra now serves grab-and-go options from Ollie’s Market, an independent grocery store slated to open this summer, according to previous Community Impact reporting. Ollie’s provides sandwiches, pastas, snacks and breakfast bowls to Tantra customers. According to Colasurd, this is a full-circle partnership as the previous owner of Tantra, Eli Zablosky, is now the owner of Ollie’s Market.

The changes in kitchen operations will also allow Tantra to focus more on live performances and events, Colasurd said.

Tantra currently hosts Bluegrass night every Wednesday, but Colasurd hopes to expand events and offer artist residencies in the future.
