“Me and my siblings, we’re all first-generation here,” said Lamson Nguyen, owner and operator of the Kyle location. “I was pretty much born and raised in the restaurants.”
The Kyle location of Pho Tháison opened in November 2008 and will be celebrating its 15th anniversary by the end of this year.
“We were one of the first full-service restaurants that opened here in Kyle,” Lamson said. “Back then, there wasn’t much here; it was just us, Subway and Whataburger.”
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, lots of people didn’t really know what pho was, he said.
“We’re blessed to still be around, and that’s a testament to my parents’ recipes,” Lamson said. “Our recipes have become more and more authentic because more and more people understand what Vietnamese food is and are asking for authentic home cooked meals.”
He says pho is a Vietnamese noodle soup, similar to ramen, but much lighter. The menu features other authentic offerings, such as banh bao, or steamed buns, braised pork belly, Singaporean stir fry and more.
“We’re your neighborhood Vietnamese restaurant,” Lamson said. “It’s all tried and true.”
For the time being, Lamson and his brother Thaison have no plans for expansions and want to focus on improving their existing restaurants.
