The city of San Marcos will host an open house Jan. 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Kissing Alley regarding the upcoming reconstruction of the space.

Located at 121 E. Hopkins St. in downtown San Marcos, the local music and event space is known for its concert series and can also be booked for weddings.

The hope is that the $5 million project will help transform the alleyway into a downtown destination.

Reconstruction will take place in the alleyway from Hopkins Street to University Drive and will include storm drain, water, wastewater, gas, telecommunications and electric utility updates.

The plans for the new design may include enhanced lighting, seating, public art, performance spaces and landscaping but will be finalized following the open house and public input from the community.

Construction is slated to begin in the fall of 2023 and is anticipated to be completed spring 2025.
