San Marcos City Council approved annexing two parcels of land Sept. 21 for the La Cima development. The applicant wants to use the land to develop an amenity center to serve residents in the single-family home community of La Cima.

A 7.78-acre parcel located at 301 Central Park Loop as well as an 8.7-acre parcel located at the northwest corner of West Centerpoint Road and Central Park were approved for the project. The development will use city of San Marcos water and wastewater and Pedernales Electric Cooperative. The land currently is unused and vacant and is surrounded by single-family homes and more vacant land.

Council members approved the annexation 7-1 with Council Member Max Baker dissenting on both hearings. The planning and zoning commission recommended approval of the development unanimously.

The newly annexed land will also include single-family homes and has been rezoned from a future development district to a single-family 4.5 district. SF-4.5 districts have single-family detached houses with a minimum lot size of 4,500 square feet, according to city documents.
