Hays County reported five new COVID-19-related fatalities along with 21 new hospitalizations and 22 hospital discharges, bringing the total hospitalized to 29. The data reflects the period up through Feb. 7.

The Hays County Local Health Department reported five new COVID-19-related fatalities between Feb. 3-7—two people from Dripping Springs, two from Kyle and one from San Marcos, all of whom were older than 50.

There were 1,010 new cases confirmed by the county between Feb. 3-7, and 2,327 residents were considered recovered in that time, bringing the current active total up to 5,812. Statewide, the Texas Department of State Health Services reported 78,563 new confirmed cases in the same time frame.

Of the 29 people hospitalized, 16 are unvaccinated, or 55%.

Of those in the hospital, two are in the intensive care unit on ventilators; eight are in the ICU without a ventilator; and the remaining 19 are not ICU patients. Three vaccinated patients are in the ICU without a ventilator. Hays County includes residents with at least one dose of a two-dose vaccine as vaccinated in their reports.


The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Hays County has now reached 49,563 since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 12,481 have occurred in the past 30 days since the county health department’s Jan. 7 reported data.

Hays County reported 343,627 negative tests since the beginning of the pandemic as well as 459 fatalities in that time.

The DSHS reported of Hays County residents age 5 and up, the total number with at least one vaccine dose is 76.36%, and 64.84% of residents are fully vaccinated. About 99.99% of Hays County residents age 65 and older have received at least one dose, and 93.85% of that population is fully vaccinated.
