The Hays County Local Health Department reported one COVID-19-related fatality on Jan. 5—a Buda man in his 50s. The department also reported 183 new confirmed cases from Jan. 5 along with two new hospitalizations.

There are now a total of 4,254 active cases.



Hays CISD reported 44 positive cases of COVID-19 in students and staff from Jan. 3-4, the first two days of school after winter break. San Marcos CISD reported 26 in the same time frame.

In the past two days, Hays CISD has reported positive cases at over half of its campuses, though all campuses still remain open.



In the past two days, San Marcos CISD has reported positive cases at every campus within its district.




All classrooms are still open and will only be closed when 10% or more of the class has tested positive.
