After Buda's Main Street Advisory Board on Oct. 14 voted to support the federal $120 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund, City Council backed the move during its Nov. 4 meeting.

The grant program—part of the proposed national Restaurants Act of 2020—would provide financial relief to restaurants that have suffered losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Information from the city states the U.S. Department of Treasury will make money available to eligible food and beverage purveyors to cover specific costs.

The program lasts until Dec. 31, and a city document states the Main Street Advisory Board is encouraging Buda residents to contact their members of Congress to show support for the Restaurants Act of 2020.

“We do not want to miss this opportunity to generate assistance for restaurants and bars in Buda, especially as the winter season approaches," board member Wayne Justice said in a statement. "If the bill is passed, the Restaurants Act of 2020 would help our local establishments recoup some of their losses, retain employees and maintain operations moving forward.”
