As Texas continues to record some of its highest numbers of new coronavirus cases since the pandemic shut down much of the state in mid-March, Hays County numbers have nearly doubled in the last week.

More testing is being conducted, but the measure of hospitalizations due to coronavirus has been rising at the same time. Hays County for weeks held near six current hospitalizations, but was at 16 on June 14.

On Sunday, Texas reported 1,183 cases and seven deaths. Texas now has more than 89,000 cases confirmed cases, which is sixth in the United States behind New York, New Jersey, California, Illinois and Massachusetts.

Hays County had 398 total cases, with 160 active cases on June 7. Just more than 2% of the county’s population had been tested. As of June 7, there were 4,666 tests in the county.

On June 14, 5,717 tests had been administered and there were 727 confirmed cases with 456 of those recorded as active.




Hays County has had five deaths due to coronavirus.
