Pie in the Sky Hot Air Balloon Festival

The third annual festival put on by the city of Kyle features more than 25 hot air balloons this year and also includes performances by the Austin End of the Line Kite Team, fireworks, kite-making workshops and the “gathering of the Kyles” as well as pie-centric events, such as pie-baking and pie-eating competitions. Learn to grow vegetables

The Hays County Master Gardner’s fall vegetable gardening class will help participants with planning, site selection, seed and plant choice and soil health as well as feeding and watering in order to grow produce before the winter closes in. 10:30 a.m. Free. Sept. 1: Experience Deep Eddy Vodka

The Austin Tour Co. and Deep Eddy Vodka partner on Sundays for The Deep Eddy Vodka Experience. SMTX Pride

Healthy Kids Running Series

Sept. 13

Hit the greens at Plum Creek

The Kyle Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Kyle Classic Golf Tournament, where morning golf is followed by an awards luncheon for sponsors and players once the last golfers have finished. 7:30 a.m. (check-in), 9 a.m. (shotgun start). $175 (individual), $400 (team of four). Sept. 14

Start the Schoolhouse Rocks Fall Series

Sponsored by For the Love of Go, a Kyle-based nonprofit dedicated to providing wellness opportunities for local families, the Schoolhouse Rocks Fall Series challenges participants to complete a set of three races. The first event is the 2019 Hornet Races on Sept. 14, which is followed by the Race for the Stars on Sept. 28 and the Bulldog Dash on Nov. 2. Participants must complete all three to win the Schoolhouse Rocks medal. The Hornet Races start at 7:30 a.m. at Tom Green Elementary School, 1301 Old Goforth Road, Buda. $60 (all three races).

Be inspired by an author

Texas State University hosts Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, the pediatrician who took notice of and studied a new water source in Flint, Michigan, that was leaching lead into the water and then led efforts to change. Hanna-Attisha will speak about her book, “What the Eyes Don’t See,” which is a firsthand account of the challenges she faced and successes she saw. 6 p.m. Free (students), other ticket prices TBA. Sept. 21: Go outside the city limits
