The Spot, an entertainment venue featuring a movie theater, restaurant, bar and bowling alley, has begun construction in Springtown Center at 1180 Thorpe Lane, San Marcos, and is expected to open by September. EVO Entertainment Group, the company managing the Spot, announced the construction start in a May 4 news release. "We spent a lot of time on it," EVO Entertainment Group CEO Mitchell Roberts said. "We got to think, 'What would we have fun doing? What would be our ideal place to hang out?' We really put some love and care and creative genius into this concept." The Spot will include six dine-in movie theater screens, eight lanes of boutique bowling as well as a venue for live music, an event space, social lounges and an outdoor patio. The 36,000-square-foot facility will occupy the space formerly occupied by Target. Roberts said children will be allowed if they are accompanied by an adult. Roberts described the look and feel of the Spot as a modern speakeasy with "different social elements" than what he has seen in other movie theater concept. Roberts declined to divulge more details, saying he hoped to keep some elements of the design a surprise for guests. "We put our heart and soul into this design," he said. Gold’s Gym opened at Springtown Center earlier in 2016. In February, Austin-based Tex-Mex chain Chuy’s announced it would open a restaurant at Springtown by this summer.
