The pool will be utilized every day for other activities, but public swim will only be on those two specified days as there have been ongoing staffing shortages. The city usually offers swimming lessons, but those have been halted as a result of the shortage, according to the city website.
For now, the human resources department has approved a $250 sign-on bonus for all applicants and raised the starting rate up to $15 an hour, Espinoza said at the meeting. However, it is still actively recruiting to fill remaining positions.
The city of Kyle is just one of many cities across Texas facing lifeguard and pool staff shortages, affecting hours of operation and openings, all together.
