The city of San Marcos is launching a new program called “Kudos Coin” to recognize people who give back to the community.

The program will be part of the city’s Keep San Marcos Beautiful initiative, and will be launched Oct. 1, along with National Night Out events around the city.

Coins can be earned for a variety of activities, including neighborhood projects, as well as efforts to clean up parts of the city.

Those who receive a Kudos Coin from the city will be able to redeem special offers from participating businesses, according to a Sept. 24 city press release.

Community Initiatives Manager Amy Kirwin stated in the Sept. 24 release that the new program was designed to highlight people in the community who help make San Marcos a “better place to live, work and play.”

“We have an amazing community of dedicated and proactive people,” Kirwin stated in the release.

Austin Java, Creeds & Crests, Insomnia Cookies, Rhea’s Ice Cream, Root Cellar Cafe, Son of a Sailor, Stellar Coffee Co., and Tap Room are participating in the program.
