The Plum Creek Conservation District, accompanied by state and local officials, announced Sept. 27 the completion of an $8.1 million renovation to the Site 6 dam off Goforth Road in Kyle.
First built in 1967, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality designated the dam as having a high-hazard potential in 2002. High-hazard potential means that because of significant urban development downstream a failure of the dam could cause significant damage to life and property.
Redesign of the dam began in 2009, and construction began in 2015. The work was funded through a combination of federal, state and local sources and brings the dam into compliance with current dam safety regulations.
