On April 2 the passport acceptance fee, or execution fee, will increase by $10 from $25 to $35.

San Marcos City Clerk Jamie Lee said the change is a mandatory increase from the U.S. Department of State.

The fee applies to U.S. passport applicants using the DS-11 form, which includes first-time applicants and applicants re-applying after reporting a previous passport lost or stolen. Lee said the processing fee goes toward the city's revenue.

The San Marcos City Clerk Office processed 6,606 passports applications in 2017, Lee said.

Revenue collected from passports is a combination of application fees and picture processing fees, when applicable, said Zonia Minjares, senior administrator for the Collin County District Clerk, in an email. In 2017, the city generated approximately $165,150 in passport application fee revenue, Lee said.

The San Marcos City Clerk and the San Marcos Post Office are the only two locations in Hays County that process passport applications in Hays County.

More information about the fee increase can be found on the U.S. Department of State’s website.
