Part of the city of San Marcos' $33.80 million in federal grant money received following two catastrophic 2015 floods will go toward rehabilitating and reconstructing damaged houses.
The city will begin accepting applications Oct. 18 for residents whose homes were affected by the 2015 floods. Both homeowners and renters can apply. The application process will be open until Nov. 17.
Qualifying residents must meet requirements involving income level, ownership status and National Flood Insurance Program compliance. Preference will be given to residents who make less than 80 percent of the median household income; are elderly or have a disability; have children under age 18; or who have suffered severe damage to their homes. The full criteria can be found
here.
Additionally, the city will hold two workshops where citizens can receive one-on-one assistance for how to apply. Staff will be available at the workshops to answer questions.
The workshops are scheduled from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 18 and Nov. 1 at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins St., San Marcos.
