San Marcos City Manager Jared Miller has been named the lone finalist for the city manager position in Amarillo.
In December
he was announced as one of five candidates the city of Amarillo was considering for its top unelected position. Amarillo City Council will meet Tuesday to
approve Miller’s contract.
“We have agreed to terms of a contract,” Miller said.
“I’m sorry to leave such a great community in San Marcos, but this is a great opportunity for my family.”
Much of Miller’s previous city management experience was in cities near Amarillo.
Miller said his proudest achievements with the city of San Marcos were results of city staff and council working together. He cited the city’s response to the two floods in 2015—during which no San Marcos residents lost their lives, and ultimately lead to a $25 million disaster recovery grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development—as one of the things he is the proudest of from his time with the city.
“I wish him and his family well,” Council Member Lisa Prewitt said. “Amarillo is a great fit for Jared. He’ll be a great asset for them, and we’ll miss him.”
Miller’s contract calls for him to start with the city of Amarillo on or before Feb. 20.
San Marcos City Council will discuss Tuesday how to move forward in light of Miller’s anticipated departure.
