The final day of the Buda Trail of Lights has been rescheduled to Monday, Dec. 19. The event’s final day was postponed from Sunday, Dec. 18, to this evening because of Sunday night’s freezing temperatures and Saturday's strong winds, which caused damage to some light displays. The event is free and will take place from 6-10 p.m. at Stagecoach Park, 880 Main St., Buda. Public comments are being collected on the FM 150 character plan through Jan. 2. The plan will help determine how a portion of FM 150 from Kyle to Dripping Springs will look in the future. Hays County is planning improvements to the road to improve mobility and safety on the road. Three public meetings to further discuss the project are set to take place between December 2016 and December 2017. Public comments can be submitted by emailing [email protected]. The Hays County Commissioners Court meets Tuesday at 9 a.m. to discuss a proposed extension of Centerpoint Road near the La Cima neighborhood, which would be built on Hunter Road in south San Marcos. The extension would “provide an alternative to Wonder World Drive connecting RR 12 to I-35 in southeast Hays County,” according to meeting documents. Commissioners will discuss awarding a $318,000 contract for preliminary engineering of the new road. Commissioners will also discuss allocating a $7.4 million disaster recovery grant related to 2015’s two destructive floods. The meeting will take place at the Hays County Courthouse, 111 E. San Antonio St., San Marcos. Buda and San Marcos City Councils meet this week. Both councils will hold regular meetings on Tuesday. The councils will also meet to canvass election results from the Dec. 13 runoff Wednesday. Buda City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. at 121 Main St., Buda, and the agenda for Dec. 20 can be found here. San Marcos City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. at 630 E. Hopkins St., San Marcos, and the agenda for Dec. 20 can be found here. Kyle has canceled its Dec. 20 meeting. San Marcos mayor candidate Ruben Becerra has until Dec. 23 at 5 p.m. to request a recount of the Dec. 13 runoff election. According to the unofficial results, Becerra lost the mayor's race to John Thomaides by 42 votes. As of Monday, Dec. 19, City Secretary Jamie Lee Case said her office had not received an official request for a recount. For more on how recounts are conducted in the city of San Marcos, click here.
