Length of residency in San Marcos: one year and 10 months

Experience: served on school council board for Penn School; current interim pastor for Antioch Buda School; and founder, CEO and president of the Foundation of Civil Rights, Youth, Government

Why are you running?

I believe that I would like to make a difference for the citizens of San Marcos. I would like to fight for flood relief; higher-paying jobs; keeping up with the growth of the city; and preserving the nice, safe community that we love.

What do you believe is the greatest challenge facing the city?

The growth and keeping up with the infrastructure with the growth. We need more fire stations, expanding the police stations, transportation, and jobs.

Why do you believe you’re the most qualified candidate?  I'm a pastor and I have experience in public service as a former local school council board member for Penn School for Chicago public schools, I'm a former community organizer as a block club president. I like to listen to the community for their input. I'm also Founder and President of the Foundation of Youth, CIvil Rights, Law, and Government.

What do you believe the city should do to protect neighborhoods and have adequate housing for students?

I believe that multifamily developments should be spread out so not to threaten established neighborhoods. I believe that we should protect those neighborhoods and have affordable housing that I would be fighting for. Texas State is growing, and I believe that we need to look at those options of building more housing for Texas State students but not at the expense of established neighborhoods here in San Marcos.

What do you believe the top priority should be as the city begins administering the $25 million disaster recovery grant from 2015's two floods?

I believe the top priority should be housing assistance to flood victims who lost their homes.  Assistance to affected businesses and let's look at infrastructure, and those  would be my top priorities.
