The San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce voted Aug. 3 to hire Jason Mock as the organization’s new president. Mock accepted the offer in early August.
Mock has served as director of small business services with the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce in Georgia since February 2010.
Jason Mock[/caption]Mock worked on political campaigns before joining the Cumming-Forsyth chamber and said his former position in Georgia taught him a lot about the role a chamber of commerce can play in the community.
“A lot of people think that once you’ve seen one chamber you’ve seen all chambers, and it’s really not that case,” Mock said. “There are a lot of different aspects. It all depends on the community and a lot on the board. From the research that I have done for [the San Marcos chamber], I see this board is very involved and dedicated to this chamber.”
Mock said he believes the chamber should play a major role in issues throughout the community.
“Whether it’s transportation, infrastructure, business development, whatever it may be, I believe the chamber should have a driving force in those major issues to help their communities be successful for the future,” he said.
Mock’s first day on the job will likely be in mid-September.
