Tejas Birria
The small family-owned business serving Tijuana-style Birria De Res opened its first food truck in a dusty lot in Buda. The eatery operates five locations across Central Texas and is preparing to open its sixth inside the kitchen of Southbound Social in San Marcos.
Southbound Social
The newest social spot and bar in downtown San Marcos will feature brand new bar tops, new bathrooms and air conditioning for the first time in the building. Tejas Birria, a family-owned Birria De Res eatery, will operate from the kitchen.

The auto parts brand will develop its third store location in San Marcos on the city’s south side near San Marcos High School, offering a variety of auto parts, including brakes, automotive batteries, motor oil, filters, cooling spark plugs, alternators, shocks and struts.
Approximately 38,000 square feet of the sixth floor of the Texas State University library will undergo interior renovations. The scope of the work will include the construction of new staff offices and student group study support spaces.
Qdoba
Students of Texas State University will have access to the chain Mexican restaurant serving classic dishes, from bowls and burritos to tacos and quesadillas. A remodel of the Jones Dining Center is expected to be complete on Aug. 15 and will accommodate the eatery.
Jimmy John’s
The customizable sandwich shop will open a new location on the Texas State University campus before the start of the 2026-27 school year. A remodel of the Undergraduate Academic Center to accommodate the dining spot is set to be completed on Aug. 15.
Relocations
The secular private microschool serving students from pre-K to eighth grade will expand its operations for the 2026-27 school year by relocating from Kyle to San Marcos. The school size has grown from eight to 24 kids, requiring the move to a larger space.

The museum honoring the 36th president of the United States' time at Southwest Texas State Teachers College, now known as Texas State University, opened in 2006 and is celebrating its 20th anniversary throughout the year.
Brunello Cucinelli
The luxury brand founded in Solomeo, Italy, in 1978, will soon open a location in the San Marcos Premium Outlets. Offering apparel, footwear and accessories for men, women and children, the shop will be located next to the outlet mall’s Gucci store.

Senza Maeso
The distillery, tasting room and cocktail bar, owned by twin brothers Ryan and Jay Gitman, closed its doors for the final time in late May. The business distilled its own spirit, Senza, alongside Ray Vodka and featured a creative cocktail menu, food trucks and an outdoor stage.
