It's been a little over a month since Hays Co. Bar-B-Que reopened in a temporary trailer in Kyle. As the business continues smoking meats and serving customers, its owners are looking forward to welcoming the community to their permanent location being built down the road.

Hays Co. Bar-B-Que opened in downtown Kyle in April, right next to The Main Squeeze on South Front Street.

Owners Michael and Asenette Hernandez and their family closed the barbecue joint's I-35 location in San Marcos last summer. The Hays County Food Bank is in the process of moving into the building.

Since then, the Hernandezes have taken some time off and laid out plans for Hays Co. Bar-B-Que's new home in Kyle.


The details

The temporary trailer is open four days a week, has outdoor seating and is BYOB. Owner Aaron Hernandez told Community Impact that they are hoping to start work on the new restaurant at 505 S. Old Hwy. 81 this summer. He said they are excited to see their old customers and get "back to what [they] used to be," a family-oriented community hub.

The new location will feature:
  • Playgrounds for different ages
  • An outdoor bar
  • Indoor and outdoor seating
  • Space to host live music
Aaron Hernandez also said they will be partnering with other local businesses to be vendors at the restaurant, including The Main Squeeze.
