Bayle’s, a lounge-style bar created in honor of a former Texas State University student who died in 2022, will open on The Square in late October.

The background

Co-owners Andrew Ray and Sheldon Catley will open the bar in remembrance of Ray’s friend Bayle Bucceri, who died in a car crash and subsequent fire at a Miami duplex in 2022. Ray and Bucceri met as neighbors at The Junction in 2020. He said she introduced him to nightlife on The Square.

“I got to have a lot of fun nights with her but when she passed, The Square was never the same,” Ray said. “It's been a goal to bring her back to The Square.”

Ray has worked in the party and entertainment industry and knew if he opened his own business, it would be in San Marcos. His desire to create something in remembrance of Bucceri spurred him on. He said Catley was the first person he called when he discovered an open space next to The Marc nightclub because of his experience in event promotion and real estate.

“I unfortunately I didn't get to meet [Bucceri], but I heard great things and I know she was definitely valued by a lot of people,” Catley said “I wanted to help them out as best I could.”

The features

Ray said Bayle’s will combine all of Bucceri’s favorite things about The Square. They want it to be a bar for everyone, not just college students.

The lounge-style bar will have a rustic contemporary design and feature a photobooth, a powder room with a big mirror and monthly cocktail specials like a pumpkin spice espresso martini, one of Bucceri’s favorite drinks.

“I think our bar ... it's very complimentary towards the ladies but anybody could come in and have a great time,” Ray said.

Bayle’s will have a soft opening in late October. Ray and Catley said they hope to have a grand opening around Halloween.
