Ice cream chain Baskin-Robbins is scheduled to hold its soft opening on Aug. 23 at 925 Hwy 80, Ste. D, in San Marcos.

The location is owned by Carlos Garza—who said he had never been to a Baskin-Robbins location until he moved to San Marcos to attend college at Southwest Texas State University.

Garza lived in San Marcos for about 14 years before moving to Victoria, where he opened his first Baskin-Robbins location. After moving back to San Marcos, Garza said he felt nostalgic, which is why he decided to open another location in town.

"I wanted to give back to the community that gave me so much when I was here," Garza told Community Impact.

Baskin-Robbins sells ice cream in an assortment of flavors. The San Marcos location will have 36 ice cream flavors as opposed to the normal 32 and have late night hours, Garza added.
