Texas State University football fans will see multiple enhancements to its stadium this fall.

What’s changing?

Texas State’s UFCU Stadium will see new turf installation begin in mid-July ahead of the 2024 football season.

The new turf will be a Vertex Core system equipped with CoolPlay, an extruded cork composite top dressing made by FieldTurf, according to a news release.

The Vertex Core system is used by collegiate programs, such as Oregon and Oklahoma State, as well as some NFL teams, such as the Carolina Panthers.

The CoolPlay additive will keep the field’s surface 35 degrees cooler than traditional sand or rubber infill systems. The extruded cork composite will also replace the crumb rubber top dressing, which will enhance the players' safety and performance.

Notable quote

Director of Athletics Don Coryell said they have made “significant” investments in their football program and game day experience, including renovation of the Weisman Football Performance Center and the new naming partnership with University Federal Credit Union.

“We will be ready for another historic season in the national spotlight,” Coryell said in a news release.

Other projects

The end zones will be updated to say "Texas State" on the south end zone and "Bobcats" on the north end zone, according to a news release. Bobcat fans will also see updated logos on the 25-yard line for UFCU.

The field name "Jim Wacker Field" will remain in a new position inside the field apron near the 10-yard line on both sides of the field.
