Sunfield Hand Pies celebrated the grand opening at its new permanent location in front of the Buda H-E-B on June 5.

Locally owned by Linda Rivera, the food truck serves Puerto Rican-inspired hot empanadas with fillings that include beef, potato, spinach, cheese and other options. The food truck also serves sweet empanadas with apples, bananas, Nutella, and other fillings.

“I've already had an extreme outpouring of [support from the] community. It's phenomenal,” Rivera said.

The business initially started in 2020 with popups and deliveries in the Buda area before operating out of the Red Bus Food Park commissary kitchen in San Marcos.

Rivera said she has plans to expand into a larger space or brick-and-mortar in the future.

“I’m extremely blessed, I'm happy to be in Buda. My goal is to just stay in Buda and expand and grow more from here,” Rivera said.
