Centered around family, balanced health and inclusivity, Family First Fitness plans to open at 550 S. Guadalupe St., Ste. 109, San Marcos, at the end of January or the beginning of February.

The location will be the home to Family First Fitness, a gym and fitness center, and Kettlebell Cafe, which will sell customers smoothies and other healthy snacks. The gym will focus on group training, semi-private training and offer fitness classes, a running club and host events.

Owned by business partners Amanda Benavidez and David McCartney, the business has been a dream in the making since 2012 and was inspired by the pair’s own weight loss journeys.

“The workout is going to be scaled so no matter who you are; one, you're going to learn how to work out and two, you're going to get benefits no matter what your fitness level is,” McCartney said.

Benavidez and McCartney are single parents and want to encourage families to come together for physical wellness.

“The main thing is we don't want to have parents have the excuse of well I have my kids so I can't work out,” Benazidez said. “We try to take away any excuse that they have and to have a child see their parents trying to live a healthier life.”
