Mazak Music, 1236 Hwy. 123, San Marcos, is closing after more than 22 years in business, co-owner Wayman Mullins said.

Mullins and his wife, Louise, bought the business more than seven years ago from Grant Mazak. It is the only full-service music store in San Marcos offering sales of guitars, band instruments, keyboards, folk instruments and drums as well as repair services.

“We’ve appreciated everybody’s support,” Mullins said. “We’ve been glad to serve the community and the schools. I hate [closing] because of the schools. That’s why we bought it in the first place—so we could service the band kids in the area. It kind of feels like we’re letting them down.”

The business is selling off its inventory and the store fixtures, Mullins said. The store’s stock includes acoustic and electric guitars, band instruments, keyboards, amplifiers, ukuleles and music books commonly used by school bands.

Many of the store's staff are moving on to new opportunities, Mullins said, so now seemed like a good time to close the doors. Mullins said the store will likely close by the end of July. The liquidation sale began today.

“It has been a good run,” Mullins said. “We’ve appreciated our loyal customers. Hopefully with our closing sale we can have enough discounts to pay them back.”
