After a nearly year-long process, Fuentes Elementary School is completing the final steps to become a fine arts focused campus. During the Hays CISD Board of Trustees meeting on April 16, Fuentes Elementary School Principal Regina Butcher presented what would be needed for the 632 students currently enrolled at Fuentes to have a curriculum with emphasis on fine arts. According to the proposal, a new full-time fine arts coordinator/teacher will need to be hired; $20,000 will have to be set aside for equipment and supplies and hourly pay for fine arts partners each year; performing and fine art classes will have to be aligned with the currently offered middle and high school programs, and 30 minutes will be alloted to fine art classes on Mondays and Fridays for each grade level during one fit level period. Students and teachers would be able to transfer to Fuentes, if they wanted to be part of the fine arts focused program after the inaugural year of the program. The trustees will vote on the proposal on April 23.
