The all-day breakfast menu at Texas Bean & Brew House has garnered a cult following a little more than a year after opening.

The group of loyalists includes regular patrons such as the Texas State University women's basketball team and men's basketball coaching staff, as well as the occasional team from out of town, owner Barish Colak said.

The concept for Bean & Brew, which also has lunch and dinner menus, is really two or three concepts rolled into one, with food served alongside craft coffee and beer.

The notion to make breakfast an all-day affair was a family idea.

"I definitely wanted to do breakfast and some quick items for lunch, some tacos, burgers and sandwiches, and my daughter came up with the idea of serving breakfast all day," Colak said. "Someone who comes in at 8:30 or 9 o'clock at night will have the same great breakfast as someone who was here early in the morning."

While Colak is proud of his college following, he is quick to point out Bean & Brew's appeal is actually quite broad.

"It kind of caters to everyone, from families with small children to college students," Colak said. "They can come in, have a cup of coffee, stay for as long as they want, study and do whatever they like."

Popular breakfast items include the Chicken and Waffles ($11.99) and the Texas B&B ($10.99), which is a combination of three farm fresh eggs made to order, two buttermilk pancakes, and smoked bacon or sausage with a side of hash browns or sweet potato hash.

Bean & Brew's coffee menu presents all the normal options you would expect, but also features seasonal drinks and specialties such as the Velvet Espresso Frappe ($4.25), which is made with two shots of espresso, frozen coffee cubes, a cream base and milk of choice.

Other available beverages include a smattering of local brews, wine and mimosas. Beer and mimosa flights are also sold.

In addition to serving walk-in customers, Bean & Brew also offers catering services and a shaded backyard area for events. The backyard and a covered patio are both dog friendly as well.

"We're building a stage for live music whenever we're able to do it after the pandemic," Colak said. "Basically, come over, have a couple drinks and have dinner, and hang out for a few hours, and that's basically what we do."
