As the Hill Country continues to set an example for saving dark skies, Buda is asking residents if they would like to join in.
A survey sent out Jan. 31 is polling residents on whether they would like to be a dark sky city and if they would consider making changes to outdoor lighting at home, among other questions.
Buda’s Sustainability Commission has been looking into the possibility of becoming dark sky certified by the International Dark Sky Association over the past few years, including conducting a survey of public lighting. And though the 2017 Unified Development Code was written with dark skies in mind, city staff has been reviewing it to see if specific language changes are needed.
