First elected in 2014, Tobias has served two three-year terms as the single-member District 1 representative.
“After considering it thoroughly, I have decided to step back from the Board to allow me more time to focus on my other volunteer work and my family,” Tobias said in the the release. “I have loved my time on the school board and I am proud of our accomplishments as a team.”
Tobias, whose husband was just elected to Kyle City Council, will continue to serve on three parent-teacher associations in the district.
One candidate, Raul Vela Jr., has already filed to run for Tobias' seat, which is the first of three up for election in May.
Both of the other sitting board members up for election, District 2 trustee Willie Tenorio and at-large trustee Vanessa Petrea, have filed to run for re-election. Though they are currently unopposed, challengers have until Feb. 14 to submit applications to be on the ballot.
