The light will help improve safety in the area, Director of Public Works Michael Thane said.
Why now?
Thane said 20 collisions occurred at the intersection in the past three years. This meets the Texas Department of Transportation's requirements for installing new traffic lights.
The current situation
City Council accepted a bid from Elecnor Belco Electric to construct and install the light. The contract, totaling $499,888, also includes accessible ramps and sidewalk improvements.
