Officials with the city of Round Rock, Texas Department of Transportation and Williamson County held a ribbon-cutting March 8 for the completion of the four-year-long RM 620 roundabout project.

The overview

Construction on the collaboration project began in March 2020 and is intended to improve safety and enhance mobility in the area, according to city documents.

The scope of work for the entire $27.4 million project included:
  • Overpasses at Chisholm Trail and Lake Creek Drive
  • Frontage roads both east and westbound
  • Widening lanes along RM 620
  • Increased bicycle and pedestrian accommodations
  • Chisholm Trail roundabout
The overpass segment of work was completed back in November 2023.

The project has already reduced congestion and added improved safety along this busy I-35 connection, according to an update from the city.

The overpass has also allowed drivers to bypass the railroad track.

“It’s important to know that it was a TxDOT construction project, but the vision—as it’s operating today—was all Round Rock,” Round Rock Director of Transportation Gary Hudder said during a previous City Council meeting.
