Drivers who use Joe DiMaggio Boulevard will soon have a secondary access point to Hwy. 79 following a land purchase for right of way from the Palm Valley Lutheran Church.

Round Rock officials approved the $831,761 purchase of 1.2319 acres of property located between the dead end of Joe DiMaggio Boulevard and Hwy. 79 for an extension of the roadway June 8. The proposed project would see the existing roadway extended to connect to Hwy. 79, creating an additional access point for adjacent neighborhoods and retail centers.

Gary Hudder, Round Rock Transportation Department director, said the area experiences high traffic due to its proximity to Dell Diamond, Old Settlers Park and retail, and the project will help alleviate some traffic congestion in the area.

The project has not yet been bid, and the timeline for the bidding process has not yet been laid out by city officials.
