The Texas Department of Transportation announced Jan. 5 that it will open the eastbound overpass on RM 620 to traffic Jan. 6.
TxDOT will open the newly constructed piece of road infrastructure at 5 a.m., allowing drivers to bypass any conflicts with the Union Pacific Corp. railroad line that runs perpendicular to RM 620. Eastbound traffic will use the overpass to travel between Briarwood Street and the I-35 intersection of RM 620. The eastbound frontage road will provide access to Chisholm Trail Road, and westbound traffic will not be affected by the overpass's opening, according to the city.
In partnership among TxDoT, Williamson County and the city of Round Rock, the project to widen RM 620 began in 2020 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting, TxDOT Public Information Officer Bradley Wheelis told Community Impact. TxDOT had previously planned to open the overpass in December but was delayed.
