The Round Rock city council approved a total of $7.75 million in additional funding for five transportation projects as part of the city's Transportation Capital Improvement Plan during its April 28 meeting.

Of these projects, three are completely new to the TCIP, while two are receiving increased funds.

One of the projects receiving an increased budget is segment five and six of Kenney Fort Boulevard. These segments will run from University Boulevard to East Old Settlers Boulevard. The increased budget amount approved by council for this project is $2.5 million.

The other existing project receiving additional funds is the South Mays corridor improvements, which city crews began working on in April. Council approved adding an additional $1.25 million to its budget.

A total of three new projects also received funding.

The Chisholm Trail South project, running from Sam Bass Road to Brushy Creek and Eagle's Nest Street and a project to create a connection between Chisholm Trail Road and Cypress Drive each received starting budgets of $1 million. The last project approved was funding for work on US 79 from I-35 to A.W. Grimes Boulevard. This project, through a partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, will widen the roadway to six lanes, install a raised median for safety along the roadway's length and include shared-use paths along the north and south sides of the street. This project received an initial budget of $2 million.

All additional funds approved by council will be paid by the Round Rock Transportation and Economic Development Corporation, also known as Type B.
