Community Impact Newspaper previously reported that part of Hairy Man Road would be closed to traffic beginning Nov. 8 until August 2022 as Williamson County makes progress on its Great Oaks Bridge project. Williamson County shifted this start date to Nov. 14, according to a release.
The section of Hairy Man Road spanning from Sam Bass Road to Great Oaks Drive will be closed with a detour directing traffic to Brightwater and Creek Bend boulevards, according to the county. Local traffic will be allowed on Hairy Man Road from Sam Bass Road through Alto Lane. Minimal delays are expected as a result of this closure and detour, according to the county.
Replacement of the Great Oaks Bridge began this year, with the project bringing additional road improvements to the intersection of Hairy Man Road/Brushy Creek Drive and Great Oaks Drive. Dedicated left-turn lanes in all directions will be added along with right-turn lanes for northbound to eastbound and eastbound to southbound traffic, and thru-right lanes for traffic moving westbound to northbound and southbound to westbound. Additional parking and modifications to the nearby hiking trail will also be constructed under the project. The project has an estimated construction cost of $11.1 million, which is funded through county 2008 and 2013 voter-approved road bonds.
This project is separate from the Hairy Man Road/Brushy Creek Drive safety improvements that are underway. Community Impact Newspaper previously reported the project is expected to be completed this December.
