A $19 million project to expand the Round Rock Sports Center is now underway, the city shared July 1.

What you need to know

Work began on a project to expand the sports center with two additional courts, bringing the total number of courts in the facility to eight, per an announcement from the city.

This comes after a construction contract for the project was approved by City Council in March. The contract was awarded to John King Construction at that time, as previously reported by Community Impact.

About the project

The 25,000-square-foot expansion is funded by the 2023 voter-approved bond and will also see other amenities, such as additional seating, restrooms, concessions and storage, built into the facility. There will also be more parking added for the facility.

What else?

While the additional courts are under construction, the existing sports center will remain fully functional, according to the city. Closures of courts and bathrooms will be timed to avoid any disruption to scheduled events or court reservations. Construction work may also at times reduce parking available in the center's south parking lot, but the main east lot is expected to largely be unaffected.
