Round Rock city officials approved the purchase of a new sign for the Dell Diamond at a March 10 council meeting.
This is the first time the marquee sign for the iconic venue will be replaced since it opened in April 2000, according to city staff. The old sign will be disposed of.
A purchase order for $557,901 via BuyBoard contract was authorized by City Council to be paid through the Dell Diamond Capital Improvement fund, with monies largely collected through hotel occupancy tax funds. The Galaxy Outdoor Electronic Message Center will be approximately 15 feet tall and 30 feet wide, according to city documents.
The new sign will be significantly larger than the original but still smaller that the Kalahari Resorts Texas sign across Hwy. 79. Sports Tourism Director Chad McKenzie said the sign is expected to arrive in two to three months, given supply chain constraints.
