Walgreens and Village MD announced via a July 8 news release the two companies are partnering to open 29 new primary care practices this year throughout Texas.

Called Village Medical at Walgreens, the practices will leverage a physician and pharmacist dynamic under one roof, according to the release.

Of the 29 practices coming to Texas, four have already opened this summer in the Greater Austin area at 799 Louis Henna Blvd., Round Rock; 3601 W. William Cannon Drive, Austin; 1821 FM 685, Pflugerville; and 2525 W Anderson Lane, Austin.

Two other Village Medical at Walgreens clinics are anticipated to open by the end of 2021 at 4550 E. Palm Valley Blvd., Round Rock, and 5781 Kyle Parkway, Kyle.

"The strategic partnership is on track to meet its overall goal of opening at least 600 Village Medical at Walgreens in more than 30 U.S. markets over the next four years with the intent to build hundreds more thereafter," the release states, adding the move benefits patients by combining pharmacy service with access to primary care.

The release states the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted numerous barriers to accessing care, including the various difficulties patients face when navigating an already complex health care environment.

“This strategic partnership between Walgreens and VillageMD demonstrates our continuing commitment to the care and well-being of our patients, and we’re excited to expand our primary care and pharmacy service offerings in Texas,” said Jamie Vortherms, Walgreens vice president of health care services, via the release.
