The city of Round Rock held its annual State of the City Address Dec. 10, featuring keynote speaker Mayor Craig Morgan. Morgan discussed the city’s future, including plans for infrastructure to support Round Rock's growth.

The city will focus on water conservation and reuse to continue to support community members and development, Morgan said at the address. The city currently uses water reuse for sites like the Forest Creek Golf Course and parks, mostly on the east side of the city.
One water reuse method includes purple pipe systems, which utilize recycled water for irrigation, industrial development and other projects that don’t need potable, or drinking-quality, water.
“We’re going to try to put purple pipes everywhere we can,” he said. “We're in the process with development to try to get some started on the west side.”
What else?
The city has a number of ongoing road projects, including the Old Settlers Boulevard extension, and Morgan said staff look to strategically plan for potential issues.
“I think all the roads are going to be busy, unfortunately,” Morgan said. “We’ll continue to try to stay ahead of it.”
Construction for projects meant to ease traffic congestion, such as Wyoming Springs Road and Gattis School Road projects, will continue to progress, according to Morgan. While Wyoming Springs Road should wrap up “quickly,” he said the Gattis School Road construction has been “painful.”
Now that the city has completed the most recent segment of the Kenney Fort Boulevard connection, the next part of the Gattis School Road project will be from Red Bud Lane to Westview Drive. Gattis School Road is still a couple years out from completion, in part due to right-of-way complications.
“If you live on the east side of Round Rock, I hear you—I see you,” Morgan said. “We’re going to do it as fast as we can.”
